Now Colorado is his home.

But before he moved back out West, Melvin Dunn became a member of the 1942 Lawrenceburg

High School graduating class.

In between, he took part in military action during World War II that would, in part, lead him to receive the French Legion of Honor Medal.

At age 89, he was given that honor, along with two other men, during a presentation ceremony held in November in Colorado Springs.

Lawrenceburg resident and friend Shirley Schmeltzer, remembers when Dunn lived with her family, while he finished his last few classes in high school. Schmeltzer is the daughter of Cliff and Thelma Hannan. Dunn joined their family of seven.
