State Sen. Johnny Nugent, R-Lawrenceburg, was recently re-elected to serve a third term on the National Rifle Association’s board of directors.
Nugent, an NRA life-benefactor member, was first elected to the board of directors in 2007. As an Indiana state senator, he has successfully authored influential legislation such as the “Castle Doctrine” as well as making Indiana the first and only state in the nation to approve a lifetime concealed-carry permit.
Nugent will be recognized at the annual meeting of NRA members in Houston, Texas, May 4 and will join other board members for their meeting May 6 and 7. He joins a list of many influential NRA board members, including former NBA forward Karl Malone, rock musician Ted Nugent, actor Tom Selleck and retired U.S. Marine Lt. Col. Oliver North.
There are a total of 75 board members, with Nugent the only Hoosier.
