Two very different fires had departments in Greendale and Lawrenceburg and others busy in recent days.
Greendale Fire Lt. Mike Kernan saved an older couple Thursday, Oct. 31, when the department was called to a house on Nowlin Avenue, said Greendale Fire Chief Shannon Craig.

Kernan works for the city of Greendale, and was at the city garage, about three blocks from the house, when the department was paged out at 12:17 p.m. Kernan saw smoke coming from the house, and heard a woman yelling for help from inside the house.

He found Linda Bowling, 66, in the family room with burns to her face and feet, and helped her outside. She told Kernan her husband was in the house, and could not get out own his own due to an illness, said Craig.
