A home on Tower Road is a total loss following a fire reported at 2:10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, said Lawrenceburg Fire Chief Johnnie Tremain.

When firefighters arrived at 385 Tower Road, they found heavy smoke coming from the house, and as crews vented the foot, there were heavy flames coming from the garage area, he said.

Chad Purtee, one of the house's five residents, woke up to the sound of breaking glass, and went to investigate. He found heavy fire in a room in the garage, and shut the door before waking the house's other occupants.

The house's smoke detectors did activate as Purtee informed the other residents of the fire, said Tremain.

One of the house's residents was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation by Lawrenceburg Emergency Rescue Unit.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, said Tremain.

Also assisting at the scene were about 30 firefighters from Greendale, Aurora and Bright fire departments. Lawrenceburg utilities and police were the scene, along with the Southeastern Indiana Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Dillsboro Fire Department was called to fill the Aurora Fire Department's station.
