One important issue always facing our state is to produce a budget that continues to maintain Indiana’s reputable priority of fiscal responsibility. Just as every Hoosier household has to live within a budget, it is as important as ever for the state of Indiana to do so as well.
A strong, balanced budget leads to more stable and lower tax rates. It is an invaluable asset to our current businesses and is a strong selling point to any other business outside our state looking to expand elsewhere.
The balance sheet of our state is the envy of the Midwest as we proudly can boast our AAA credit rating, something which no other neighboring state can boast.
As Mitch Daniels said, “Governments do not run economies. They do not create jobs or wealth. At their worst, they destroy jobs, or drive them to other, friendlier locations. At their best, they establish an environment in which free men and women, pursuing their own dreams and best ideas, create wealth for each other.”
If there is a job to be created in this nation, from a burgeoning small business to a Fortune 500 company, I want that job to be here in Indiana. Continuing to have a responsible, balanced budget is absolutely essential in making Indiana the best state for business in the Midwest and the nation.
