Of five DREs in Dearborn County, Aurora Police Department will have two.

So what's a DRE? A Drug Recognition Expert.

These are police officers who have completed training to locate, identify and successfully prosecute drug-impaired drivers, according to the mission statement of the Indiana DRE program.

Aurora Officers Jon Kolb and Clint Holmstrom recently attended the two-week training at the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Academy, said Aurora Police Chief Bryan H. Fields. The officers now have to conduct a dozen evaluations and take a final examination to become certified.
