Indiana State Police arrested four men Friday afternoon, June 29, for transporting roosters for the purpose of cock fighting in Kentucky. The arrests came after a routine traffic stop on Interstate 74 in Dearborn County.

Indiana State Police Senior Trooper Adam Bullock observed two vehicles, a 1999 Honda Accord and a Honda Odyssey Van (year not known) that appeared to be traveling together on I-74 near the 164 mile marker at 12:20 p.m. Friday, June 29.

He and ISP Senior Trooper Jimmy Wells stopped the vehicles for minor traffic violations.

During the course of the traffic stop, it was determined the two vehicles and occupants were traveling together and there were five male adults and three male juveniles total in the two vehicles.

As the traffic stop continued it was discovered the van contained 21 roosters and the car contained various items of paraphernalia commonly associated with cock fighting.

The investigation revealed the two vehicles and occupants were enroute to Lexington, Ky., where the roosters were going to be sold for the purpose of a cock fighting contest that was to take place later that evening.

Four of the adult males were arrested and the three juveniles were released to the fifth male who was not charged.

All of the arrested individuals were transported to the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center, Lawrenceburg.

The roosters were turned over to Dearborn County Animal Control. At this time, the disposition of the roosters is unknown.
