The Dearborn Community Foundation, Inc. is accepting application for the Dr. Leslie M. Baker Memorial Scholarship for students pursuing a doctorate in medicine. The scholarship application and guidelines are available at the DCF office, 322 Walnut St., Lawrenceburg, or on the Foundation website at www.dearborncf.org.

The Dr. Leslie M. Baker Memorial Scholarship is open to residents of Dearborn, Ohio and Switzerland counties or to individuals intending to locate to the Dearborn County Hospital serving area who are currently pursuing a doctorate in medicine.

Priority is given to students at Indiana University School of Medicine, Dr. Baker’s alma mater. Scholarship guidelines and applications are available at the Foundation office.

Completed applications must be received in the DCF office no later than 4 p.m. on July 6, 2012.

The Dr. Leslie M. Baker Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to help students seeking doctorate in medicine. The fund was established by Dr. Steven Gerke, and the family of the late Dr. Baker.

During Dr. Gerke’s college years, he had received financial aid anonymously. Dr. Gerke learned a few years later that Dr. Baker was the individual that had anonymously provided financial support for his education.

He also learned that Baker had helped untold other Dearborn County students. The families of Dr. Gerke and Dr. Baker were all so moved by Dr. Baker’s philanthropy that they established the memorial scholarship fund.
