G’dale may get help from L’burg for new pool

Lawrenceburg may forgive a loan to Greendale so the bordering city can put the money toward construction of a new city pool to replace Greendale’s 62-year-old pool.

The city council voted 3-2 to send a favorable recommendation to the city’s loan committee to forgive the loan after a presentation by Greendale Mayor Doug Hedrick and, at times, heated debate at council’s meeting Monday, July 16.

Greendale and Lawrenceburg are working together to build a water interconnect to improve service for both cities, with Greendale paying $400,000. Building the pool would be easier “without having this loan hanging over our heads,” said Hedrick at the council meeting.

Greendale got the $1.7 million loan in August 2006 to renovate it’s police headquarters and clerk-treasurer’s office on Ludlow Avenue.

Hedrick told council the city pays Lawrenceburg $85,000 a year on the loan.
