New South Dearborn High School interim principal Jason Cheek will not be
filling the shoes of former principal Rob Moorhead, the new
superintendent for South Ripley schools.
“His shoes are too big too fill,” said Cheek.
But he is excited to be stepping into them, he said.
is going to be missed by everyone in the building. He set a fantastic
atmosphere here. ... He was such a fantastic principal,” said Cheek.
“I will take a lot of what Rob did and reuse it,” he said.
though school starts this week, not giving him a lot of time in his new
post, he expects the transition to be smooth, said Cheek.
“I am looking forward to the school year getting under way ... and continuing the success we have at South Dearborn,” he said.
As assistant principal for five years, he was very involved with the school and he knows the staff, he said.
also pointed out he is probably the first SDHS graduate to be principal
of the school, said Cheek, a 1989 SDHS graduate who also attended
Northern Kentucky University and received a masters in administration
from Ball State University.
He also learned a lot from Steve Mendell
who retired as head of the SDHS guidance department at the end of the
2011-12 school year, he said.
Rob Moorhead’s wife, Lisa Moorhead, was hired to take Mendell’s place.
A lot of credit also has to be given to the SDHS staff and the great students and community, said Cheek.
education and health teacher Brad Stoneking, who also serves as an
assistant football coach, will take over Cheek’s former position which
is now called the interim dean of students. He will be taking care of
discipline, school improvement and attendance, he said.
Due to the
principal’s job being an interim position for the year, the job will be
opened up in the spring to other candidates, in addition to himself,
