Gallant Fox goes off as a 1-2 favorite and battles Whichone for the lead for most of the race. Then Jim Dandy stuns the crowd by running along the rail, passing both horses. The loss proves to be the only one of the year for Gallant Fox. Among those in the crowd is New York Gov. Franklin Roosevelt. In November 1932, Roosevelt will be elected President. The race marks the second upset by Jim Dandy at Saratoga, following a 1929 win as a 50-1 underdog in the Grand Union Hotel Stakes. Gallant Fox sires another Triple Crown winner, Omaha, who will win in 1935.
