The physical effects of trauma to a 7-week-old infant's brain will not be known for years, but her father and batterer has been sentenced to 48 years in prison.

Joshua Schulkers, 23, of 4561 Chappelow Ridge,was sentenced to the maximum for physically abusing his daughter, then failing to obtain medical care, said a press release from Dearborn County Prosecutor Aaron Negangard.

The baby was left in Schulkers' care when her mother went back to work at Burger King in Harrison Sunday night, Oct. 2, according to the probable cause affidavit filed by Dearborn County Sheriff's Det. John D. Vance, a member of the county special crimes unit. When the mother, Ashley Dilbeck, returned home early the next morning, she noticed a bump on the back of the baby's head and took the infant to Cincinnati Children's Medical Center.
