Dearborn County has lost not one, but two men who devoted the greater parts of their lives to serving their friends and neighbors.

Elwood Benning, 80, died Saturday, Sept. 1, and Jerry McAdams, 70, died Monday, Sept. 10.
Benning was a vital part of the Dearborn County Emergency Management group for about 36 years, beginning long before it attained its present name and was known instead as Civil Defense.

Emergency Management director Bill Black Jr., recalls that his father, the late Bill Sr., had headed up the group when Benning began  to work with them. Black explains that for much of the time, Benning donated his time in managing the office,  answering phones and coordinating efforts with the HAM radio operators of the area.
