I was mightily impressed by Brad Bookout because of what he plans to do for our area. I’m writing this letter because I found Mr. Bookout to be an exciting candidate and hope to convince local voters to put him in office.
Mr. Bookout said that his main focus in office would be job creation.
Now, “Job Creation” is the common refrain of most politicians these days, but Brad has a proven record of actually bringing jobs to his area.
He gave me a list of his current and past projects. As a member of the Muncie-Delaware County Economic Alliance, he has brought in $46.9 million in state and federal grants that have provided new private sector jobs, retained existing jobs, and led to improved infrastructure.
New employers coming to the Muncie area include
Progress Rail, Brevini Wind, Magna Corporation and DSE Trucking. As of August 29, 2012, that’s over 1,500 new jobs.
Mr. Bookout pointed out that Indiana is a donor state, that we send more in revenue to Washington than we receive in federal funds.
Because Mike Pence has consistently opposed earmarks, as does Luke Messer, the 6th District has been on the short end when it comes to receiving federal funds.
Brad said he is no fan of earmarks, but countered, “As long as the game is played and the money comes back to districts, I will be your biggest advocate in Washington.”
In my own community, I know many hard-working people who are stuck in jobs that pay little and don’t offer benefits, jobs with irregular hours that often don’t even add up to 40 hours a week.
However, the jobs that Mr. Bookout has brought to his area are full-time decent jobs. It would be great if he had the opportunity to do that for us.
I hope you’ll vote for Brad Bookout, even if it means crossing party lines, in the interests of a better future for the 6th District.
