LAWRENCEBURG – The name may invoke one of the catch lines from the 1990s TV sitcom Seinfeld.
But Lawrenceburg football senior placekicker Jake Newman’s lethal talent and formidable focus are no joke. Just ask the No. 10-ranked Tigers’ opponents, including Batesville head coach Eric Heppner.“That kid is incredible,” said the ever-expressive 17th-year Bulldogs coach. “He kicked a (school record) 48-yard field goal against us (40-0 LHS win Sept. 21, at Batesville). He also kicked off into the end zone for five touchbacks. One time, after they got a penalty on an extra point, he kicked off from their 25 yard line. And still reached the end zone!”
