Forget London Bridge falling down, Lawrenceburg High School’s gym is falling down.

The gym, built in 1964, is facing serious structural issues, and Lawrenceburg Schools Superintendent Karl Galey and members of the school board explained the issues and preliminary ballpark estimates for replacing the gym at Lawrenceburg City Council Monday night, Nov. 5.

Galey presented options for repairing/replacing the gym estimated at about $15 million by engineering group American StructurePoint, and stressed the school corporation is seeking various grants and other options so it will not have to impact property tax payers or seek a referendum or go through the remonstrance process.

Footers under the gym have settled, and trusses are bowing. The gym is generally unstable, said Galey.
