A 91-year-old Aurora man apparently died on a fishing trip Friday, Nov. 9, according to officials.
Richard Brown, 12088 Stewart St., was reported missing at about 9:30 p.m. Friday by his sons Roy Brown and Terry Brown, according to a news release from the Dearborn County Sheriff's Department. Roy Brown had spoken to his dad that morning, and Richard Brown said he was going fishing.
The sons said their dad usually fishes on the McAlister property in Switzerland County or the Cutter ponds on Rullman Drive in Dillsboro, said the release. Both areas were checked Friday evening to no avail.
Saturday morning, however, a caller to Ohio County Dispatch reported locating items belonging to Richard Brown and seeking assistance at the McAlister Farms on North Branch Road in Switzerland County, said a Switzerland County Sheriff's press release.
At about 10:30 a.m., Richard A. Brown's vehicle was located fully submerged in a pond located on the McAlister Farms property, said the release. The 2000 Blue Taurus, with his body inside, was recovered by the Dearborn County Water Rescue team.
The incident remains under investigation by the Switzerland County Sheriff's Department and Switzerland County Coroner's Office, said Switzerland County Sheriff Roy Leap.
“Preliminary investigation does not indicate anything suspicious, but a full investigation is underway to determine the facts of the case,” he said.
Also assisting at the scene were officers from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
Filter-DeVries Funeral Home, Dillsboro, is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, and the funeral at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, both at Dearborn Baptist Church, Aurora.
