Dearborn County’s best got even better in 2012 high school volleyball, making Register Publications’ second annual all-county honors team an easy choice.
After splitting the conference title three ways a year ago, East Central’s Lady Trojans (25-8) ran the table for a 10-0 outright Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference crown under new head coach Dana Heileman.
EC 5’11” senior outside hitter Jessica Wilgenbusch, hands-down winner of last year’s initial County Offensive Player of the Year award, had ‘repeat winner’ written all over. She smacked 296 kills for a more balanced team, upping her kills per set ratio to 3.57.
Compact but fearless Lawrenceburg junior libero Kaylie Martin, who shared last year’s County Defensive MVP award with graduated Chelsey Budd, took on more of a leadership role for coach Staci Knigga’s 26-9 Lady Tigers. Martin kept up her feisty full-court coverage game to set the LHS attack in motion, amassing an off-the-charts 481 defensive digs.
