Dearborn County’s 2012 high school boys soccer season will forever remain tinged with sadness for the loss of one of our own.

East Central junior captain Jacob Amberger died tragically Oct. 6, killed in a car accident on Ind. 46 while driving to meet the team bus headed for that evening’s scheduled Class 2A sectional final at Jennings County.

We honor that fine young man, who inspired teammates and opponents alike, in life and death, as Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference coaches chose to earlier this fall. Jacob Amberger receives our Team Player of the Year award, posthumously.

Despite heavy hearts, Trojan teammates carried on to win that Class 2A title match in the wake of the tragedy, led by county offensive and defensive Players of the Year Sam Burns and Kyle Lachenman.

A total of 11 East Central players head the 2012 All-Dearborn County boys soccer team, along with the rivals who supported them through their trying time – including eight Class A sectional champion Lawrenceburg Tigers and seven South Dearborn Knights.
