AURORA – South Dearborn football expected some dropoff after a solid 7-3 season, its fourth under coach Eric Lows, in 2011.
But nothing could prepare the Knights for the 0-10 abyss they fell into this past fall, where everything seemed to go wrong, bad turned to worse and little could be done to stop the pain.
“We felt we had a solid team after we scrimmaged Milan in the preseason,” said Lows, now 20-31 in five seasons at his alma mater, where he doubles as Aurora Elementary School principal.
“That first game of the season (63-19, to 2A sectional champ Lawrenceburg, 11-2) just seemed to throw us. We lost (senior C/DE) Dustin Conety (emergency appendectomy) right before that and had to reshuffled our lines. Things just snowballed and we were never able to put on the brakes.”
