Wood you like to rock? Dillsboro man crafts artful chairs

The first thing you notice about Pat Cornett's rocking chairs is their beauty.

You have to sit down to notice the second thing: how comfortable they are.
Cornett, 52, has been working with wood for 20 to 25 years, but only turned to making rockers a few years back.

That was after he read an article about Sam Maloof, a renown California woodworker.
“He started making these and got famous for it. He made them for presidents and everything,” said Cornett, Dillsboro. Maloof, who died in 2009, made other furniture as well, but it was his rocking chairs which garnered the most notice.
