AURORA – Winner of a record seven of the 12 River Town Classic girls basketball titles to date, South Dearborn earned a shot at No. 8 with Wednesday's 49-34 first round win over Switzerland County. Defending champion Lady Knights avenged their 44-42 loss at Vevay in the second game of the regular season Nov. 10 with the victory, their fourth in the last six outings. The 15-point win puts coach Bob Bressert's team back in the championship round Saturday, where SD will meet Rising Sun (7-3) – a rival it edged 40-36 on the same home court Nov. 29. South Dearborn, led by 5'10” junior Ellen Barrett's game-high 18 points, 10 from 5'11” classmate Emily Townsend and eight from bookend junior Kooper Vertz, took control when it held coach Ashley Chase's Pacers (6-7) to four points in the third period. “We played a lot better than we did the first time against them,” said Bressert, whose team's field goal makes (21) nearly tripled those of the Swiss (eight), who were without senior guard Emily White (season-ending foot surgery) this time.
