The Friends of Versailles State Park group will meet Monday, Jan. 28, at 5 p.m. at Crossroads Restaurant in Versailles. The group will be discussing events for the year. The meeting will be open to the public, and memberships will be accepted.

The first event for 2013 will be Saturday, Feb. 2. Guy Schwering will lead a First Saturday Fitness Hike starting at 9 a.m. Hikers will meet at the Versailles State Park swimming pool parking lot.

According to Schwering, the hike will be fairly strenuous, four miles, and will be along Laughery Creek. Great views of the valley and creek side scenery will be part of the hike. The event is open to the public.

The Friends of Versailles State Park group formed last year, and had its first event “Walk Off the Gravy Hike” the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Over 20 people turned out to learn some of the history of the park.

Memberships are Annual-Individual $15; Family $25; Sponsor $100; Lifetime-Individual $150, and Family $250.

Memberships can be paid at the meeting Jan. 28, at the Ripley County Welcome Center, 220 East U.S. 50, Versailles, or mail to Friends of Versailles State Park c/o Ripley County Tourism Bureau, P.O. Box 21, Versailles, IN 47042. Funds will be used for activities and projects to enhance the park.

More information is available on the Friends group at Facebook: Friends of Versailles State Park, or call 1-812-689-7431. Please call and let us know if you will be attending either the meeting, or the hike.
