Despite a few days of bitter cold weather, excavation for the new Greendale Swimming Pool has already progressed to the point where rough grading is done.

Maxwell Construction Company was awarded the contract for the new facility after their bid of $1,999,000 was the lowest of those submitted, and well below the spending cap of $2.2 million set by City Council.

The new pool replaces one which opened in 1950, and which had deteriorated to the point that it could no longer be maintained.

Officials are still hoping to open the new pool by June 1.
