On a cold day with wind chills dipping into the single digits, the crowd was small but dedicated for the 24th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day March Monday, Jan. 21, from Central Elementary School to Union Valley Missionary Baptist Church, Lawrenceburg.

“The crowd is down ... but those who are loyal are here,” said William “Bucky” Thomas, who is on the MLK March and Celebration committee at the start of the program following the march at the church.

But the Rev. Dr. Sheldon Rox, pastor of Union Valley, said he hopes next year’s 25th anniversary will be a much bigger celebration.

He also hopes a new generation will be ready to take over the planning committee.

After the 25th anniversary celebration next year, Rox said he will resign from the committee, passing on the torch.
