Bright Elementary School will conduct kindergarten registration for the
upcoming 2013-14 school year Tuesday, Feb. 26,from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in
the school gym. To enter kindergarten a child must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1, 2013. An
official birth certificate from the county courthouse where the child
was born must be presented at registration or the child will not be
enrolled until the official certificate is provided. (A hospital
certificate is not an official record.) Also, families must bring the
child’s social security card, current immunization records and legal
custody agreements if applicable. Every child residing in Indiana who
enters kindergarten shall present proof of immunization. Indiana State
Health Department requires the following immunizations for newly
enrolled students in kindergarten and first grade: 5 doses of DtaP; 4
doses of polio; 2 doses of MMR; 3 doses of Hepatitis B vaccine; and 2
doses of Varicella (chickenpox) vaccine. (Parental history of chicken
pox disease is acceptable.) 2 doses of the Hepatitis A vaccine are
recommended for all students entering kindergarten. Children without proof of immunization on or before the first day of school may not attend school until this proof is submitted. A
complete physical and dental examination is encouraged before starting
school in the fall. It would be wise to make these appointments soon, as
it sometimes takes several weeks to get an appointment. If you reside in Indiana, but outside our school district, you need to fill out an “Application for Transfer Tuition” form. Full-day kindergarten was offered in the 2012-2013 school year as a pilot program. The continuation of this program is dependent on funding from the State of IN. We will proceed with kindergarten registration as if the state is funding FDK and no half day kindergarten will be offered at BES. If the state changes any of the funding we will notify you as soon as we hear anything. |
