HISTORY REPEATS FOR SD GIRLS AT MEMORIAL GYM, 77-44

RUSHVILLE – There's a lot of history in Rushville's Memorial Gym, the 87-year old home of the Lions and host to this week's Class 3A Sectional 29 girls basketball tournament.

One of Indiana's oldest high school hoops venues still in use, the throwback arena is the place where Milan's legendary 1954 state championship team won the regional en route to its date with history at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

Built in 1926, structural beams obscure the view from some of the old brick structure's 360-degree wooden bleacher seats. And the restrooms are the size of small closets. But the place carries a certain charm of bygone days of Hoosier Hysteria.

South Dearborn and all its Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference rivals will be seeing a lot more of old Memorial Gym in the future after next year, when Rushville and Connersville combine to make it an eight-team league.

SD girls didn't exactly make history with Wednesday night's 77-44 second-round loss to defending champion Madison before a typically sparse class division tournament weeknight crowd.
