The track hasn't been resurfaced since 1978 and has been subjected recently to rain and cold weather. A second red flag is brought out after lap 166 for further repairs to turn 2. Yellow cautions stretch the 500-mile race to 520 miles. There are 52 lead changes. It finishes under the light, lasting more than six hours. During the final lap, Jamie McMurray's Chevrolet passes leader Kevin Harvick to move into first place in an overtime restart and holds off Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the final turn to take the checkered flag.
