Indiana State Police Detective Kip Main arrested 29-year-old James D. Spivey of Brookville Tuesday, Feb. 19, on a Franklin Circuit Court warrant charging him with Child Seduction a Class D Felony, said Sgt. Noel Houze, ISP Public Information.

The investigation began Feb. 6, when information was received by the Indiana State Police alleging Spivey, a teacher and basketball coach at Connersville High School was involved in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old female student and basketball player at Connersville High School, he said.

The investigation revealed Spivey and the student began a relationship shortly after the start of the basketball season which later became a sexual relationship with the encounters occurring at Spivey’s residence. Upon completion of the investigation Det. Main turned his findings over to the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office which subsequently resulted in the charge being filed against Spivey, said Houze.

Spivey resigned his position as a teacher/coach at Connersville High School shortly after the investigation began, said Houze, adding persons arrested are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
