Dillsboro would not be what it is today without Dellas M. Ross, 93, who died Friday, Feb. 22.

Ross and his late wife Dottie Ross donated land for the town's Fifty+ Center and Dillsboro Public Library, part of the Aurora Library District. They managed and eventually owned the Dillsboro Health Resort, which became a nursing home and where the town's annual festival, Dillsboro Homecoming, originated.

He also helped establish Dillsboro Village Senior Apartments, built Lakeview, Lakeside and Sunrise apartments in the town, and was responsible for the improvement of other buildings in Dillsboro.

One of Dellas Ross's biggest contribution through the years resulted from his concern for older folks.
