LAWRENCEBURG – Winners of three-straight games for the second time this season - including a doubleheader sweep of Switzerland County Saturday - Lawrenceburg softball moved into the uncharted territory of 7-3. “We only won five last year, so the girls are happy,” said second-year LHS head coach Mark McCool. His Lady Tigers, who already downed Jac-Cen-Del and followed with a twinbill sweep of Taylor (Ohio) earlier this spring, duplicated the feat last weekend.

LAWRENCEBURG – Lawrenceburg baseball reached the 7-2 mark with Friday night's 4-3 squeaker over Jac-Cen-Del before hitting some weekend turbulence. With non-conference wins over Milan and JCD last week, coach Nick Tremain's Tigers traveled to Class 4A Columbus North Saturday and were swept in a doubleheader, 12-1 and 10-0, both in five innings. LHS took a bigger loss in the personnel department Saturday, when senior infielder/pitcher Nathaniel Barrows suffered a concussion while making a headfirst slide. Although it was ruled a minor concussion, Barrows still is required to sit out 10 days for observation under IHSAA rules.

LAWRENCEBURG – Bill Snyder’s sudden retirement announcement, from the positions of Lawrenceburg High School principal and girls varsity basketball coach, may have caught some off-guard. Lawrenceburg school board moved quickly to fill one of the gaps Monday, April 8, promoting LHS girls basketball junior varsity coach Zane White to take over the Lady Tigers’ 30-year rebuilding program. White, 39, a Dillsboro native and South Dearborn High School graduate (1991), has served as an LHS staffer for 13 years and Lady Tiger junior varsity coach since 2007.

LAWRENCEBURG – One of the best things to see of Lawrenceburg’s 2012-13 boys varsity basketball season actually came after the Tigers had been eliminated in the first round of Class 3A sectional play. After losing a hard-fought battle with Rushville, 67-64, on opening night Tuesday, Feb. 26, nearly the entire LHS senior group, and a few of the underclassmen, returned that Friday – sitting right under the north basket in the jam-packed Greensburg gym. They were there to watch the eventual Class 3A state champion Pirates’ season rubber match with No. 8 Batesville, the hottest ticket in any of the local tournaments that night.

LAWRENCEBURG – Patience proved to be a virtue for Lawrenceburg baseball Monday night. Coach Nick Tremain's Tigers, now 5-2, followed Saturday,s 20-2, five-inning blowout of road-worn Yale Public (Mich.) by drawing 12 walks en route to a 16-2 run-rule win over visiting Milan. “We had to work to get strikes to hit tonight,” said Tremain. “We did a good job not changing our approach and focusing on hitting good pitches. Taking the 12 walks allowed us to have runners on throughout the game. And we did a nice job cashing in with runners in scoring position.”

LAWRENCEBURG – A sixth-inning dribbler in front of the mound, followed by a soft pop fly that dropped in behind shortstop were enough to break a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning of Lawrenceburg's 3-1 varsity baseball win over Madison Friday. Playing under sunny, cool and windy conditions at Pat O'Neill Field, Tigers (3-2) recorded just two hits in the contest, but made them both count. Lawrenceburg nursed a 1-0 lead since the first inning behind complete-game winner Kyle Kittle, who allowed one run on four hits, striking out five with two walks.

ERLANGER, Ky. - Conner Bowell's complete-game mound victory for Lawrenceburg baseball Wednesday may not have been the prettiest ever seen. But the senior right-hander's effort – a 10-hit shutout with four strikeouts and one walk – proved effective for the Tiger varsity's second win in four starts, 9-0 over the Juggernauts of Erlanger Lloyd High. “Bowell really has stepped up on the mound for us,” said LHS coach Nick Tremain. “He kept his pitch count down by challenging hitters and trusting the defense to make plays. Getting seven innings out of Conner was huge for us tonight.”

RISING SUN – Lawrenceburg softball took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning in Monday's chilly season opener against preseason No. 6-ranked (Class A) Rising Sun. But the host Lady Shiners (2-0) rallied to tie in the home half of the third inning, then added go-ahead runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth frames en route to a 9-1 victory. Katelyn Randall led off the LHS second with an infield single and junior Macy McCool bunted for a base hit. Sophomore Casey Larson's subsequent sacrifice bunt attempt was misplayed for one of the Shiners' three errors, loading the bases.

RISING SUN - Rising Sun senior Brandon Turner went 4-for-4 with the game-winning single to lead Rising Sun to a 10-9 come-from-behind win in the bottom of the seventh on Monday over Lawrenceburg. Ranked No. 17 in the state coaches association’s Class A preseason poll, coach Kevin Wirsch’s Rising Sun crew trailed LHS (1-2) by a 9-3 count at one point. “It was good to see our bats wake up a little bit.” said new LHS head coach Nick Tremain. “But we had several opportunities to cash in put the game away and couldn't get it done. We struggled to make plays all afternoon.”
