LAWRENCEBURG – A sixth-inning dribbler in front of the mound, followed by a soft pop fly that dropped in behind shortstop were enough to break a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning of Lawrenceburg's 3-1 varsity baseball win over Madison Friday. Playing under sunny, cool and windy conditions at Pat O'Neill Field, Tigers (3-2) recorded just two hits in the contest, but made them both count. Lawrenceburg nursed a 1-0 lead since the first inning behind complete-game winner Kyle Kittle, who allowed one run on four hits, striking out five with two walks.

ERLANGER, Ky. - Conner Bowell's complete-game mound victory for Lawrenceburg baseball Wednesday may not have been the prettiest ever seen. But the senior right-hander's effort – a 10-hit shutout with four strikeouts and one walk – proved effective for the Tiger varsity's second win in four starts, 9-0 over the Juggernauts of Erlanger Lloyd High. “Bowell really has stepped up on the mound for us,” said LHS coach Nick Tremain. “He kept his pitch count down by challenging hitters and trusting the defense to make plays. Getting seven innings out of Conner was huge for us tonight.”

RISING SUN – Lawrenceburg softball took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning in Monday's chilly season opener against preseason No. 6-ranked (Class A) Rising Sun. But the host Lady Shiners (2-0) rallied to tie in the home half of the third inning, then added go-ahead runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth frames en route to a 9-1 victory. Katelyn Randall led off the LHS second with an infield single and junior Macy McCool bunted for a base hit. Sophomore Casey Larson's subsequent sacrifice bunt attempt was misplayed for one of the Shiners' three errors, loading the bases.

RISING SUN - Rising Sun senior Brandon Turner went 4-for-4 with the game-winning single to lead Rising Sun to a 10-9 come-from-behind win in the bottom of the seventh on Monday over Lawrenceburg. Ranked No. 17 in the state coaches association’s Class A preseason poll, coach Kevin Wirsch’s Rising Sun crew trailed LHS (1-2) by a 9-3 count at one point. “It was good to see our bats wake up a little bit.” said new LHS head coach Nick Tremain. “But we had several opportunities to cash in put the game away and couldn't get it done. We struggled to make plays all afternoon.”

LAWRENCEBURG – A quick glance at the numbers sounds like trouble for Lawrenceburg fast-pitch softball this spring.
A 5-23 record last year under first-year head coach Mark McCool. A total of 14 players on the roster, grades 9-12, entering this season. Down from 24 a year ago.
But raw numbers can be deceiving. Seven of this year's Lady Tigers were on the field last May, leading a late-season surge that resulted in a 4-0 upset win over Madison in the program's first-ever sectional game at the Class 3A level. It also marked the first sectional win for LHS since 2009.

LAWRENCEBURG – New coach Nick Tremain and Lawrenceburg baseball don’t have long to wait to get their 2013 season under way. Tremain, 32, a 1998 LHS graduate, returns home to follow a successful run of 11 consecutive winning seasons by Joe Vogelgesang, promoted to athletics director July 1. He and the Tigers officially open Monday in Game One of the 32-game Cincinnati Reds High School Futures Showcase, taking on crossriver rival Conner (Ky.) at Northern Kentucky University (5 p.m.). Tremain is back after a successful (109-65) seven-year run at South Central (Harrison County) – where he led the Rebels to a 24-8 season, No. 8 ranking in Class A and their first-ever IHSAA semistate appearance last June.

LAWRENCEBURG – Lawrenceburg High School football will return to the Class 3A level for the second time in school history for at least the next two-year IHSAA classification period starting next fall. Indiana High School Athletic Association reclassification figures for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 school years, announced Tuesday by commissioner Bobby Cox, peg LHS (enrollment 564) as the sixth-smallest among 64 Class 3A schools under the new six-class playoff format. Tigers won three of their total 16 IHSAA sectional championships in the 3A division in the late 1980s and early 1990s – with titles in 1988, 1991 and 1992, all under former head coach Glenn Crocker.
