Vietnam Veterans chapter seeks new members
The Southeastern Indiana Lary D. Fogle Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter No. 71 is located in Aurora in the VFW Building and they meet monthly on the last Thursday of the month at 7:30 p.m.
The chapter has 94 members and all of them are Life Members and they are very proud of that. They are always looking for new members. If you served in the Armed Forces during the Vietnam War, whether you were Boots on Ground or a Vietnam Era Veteran, you qualify for membership.
This organization is very patriotic and community minded and are always making charitable contributions and helping any way they can to make it a better place to live.
They participate in funeral details for departed veterans, Memorial Day events, Red, White and Boom in Aurora for the 4th of July, Veterans Day events, school events to tell what veterans have done and continue to do, Farmers Fair, Bright Festival
Parade, Color Guard at the Cincinnati Reds to present the colors on the field before the game, Color Guard at Kentucky Speedway for the National Anthem, helping to escort and guard the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Moving Wall, helping with dinners for the Welcome Home Warriors and presenting plaques to those young men and women returning from overseas duty, annual dinner to honor the Korean War.
Veterans at the VFW also take an annual trip to Wright Patterson Air Force Base to see the museum with a supper at Golden Corral. They help celebrate National Vietnam Veterans Day Program March 29 to pay tribute to our fellow Vietnam Veterans with a Welcome Home long overdue and many other events.
Lary D. Fogle (yes, one r in Lary) was only 18 years and four days old when he was serving with the 173rd Ariborne and was killed in action Dec. 20, 1965 at Bien Hoa, South Vietnam.
