DCH event offers health screenings
Dearborn County Hospital and the Miami Center in Cleves are co-hosting Health-A-Fair at the Miami Center Saturday, April 8, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The event will offer a variety of informational exhibits and health screenings for those 18 years of age and older.
An optional blood chemistry analysis, including an HDL/LDL cholesterol ratio, will be offered for a reduced fee of $30.
Those wishing to have blood drawn for the analysis must provide the name and address of their personal physician/nurse practitioner. This information must be provided at the time of registration.
Results of the analysis will be mailed to both the participant and their physician/nurse practitioner for follow-up.
For the most accurate results, a 12-hour fast immediately before the screening is recommended. Fasting for Health-A-Fair purposes is described as nothing to eat or drink except black coffee, plain tea, water and necessary medications.
Persons with diabetes or those who are under a health professional’s care should consult their physician/nurse practitioner before fasting.
Individuals who require food or beverages other than water to be taken with their medications during the fasting period also may wish to consult their care provider.
Men attending Health-A-Fair at the Miami Center can participate in a screening for prostate cancer.
Blood can be drawn for the Prostate Specific Antigen screening at the same time it is being obtained for the chemistry analysis.
The cost of the PSA is $10 and participants must provide the name and address of their physician/nurse practitioner during pre-registration or registration.
Results of the screening will be mailed to both the participant and their care provider for follow-up.
Based on individual patient information, the physician/nurse practitioner may recommend that participants make an appointment for a digital examination. Individuals do not have to take part in the blood chemistry analysis to participate in the PSA screening.
All screening results obtained at the event should be used as supplemental health information. Participation in Health-A-Fair screenings does not replace and should not be considered a substitute for an examination by a physician/nurse practitioner.
Exhibits from a variety of DCH departments and numerous health-related community services and programs will be featured at the Health-A-Fair.
Vial of Life supplies and in-home colorectal cancer screening kits will also be distributed free of charge.
Registration for Health-A-Fair at the Miami Center is available at the door, however, pre-registration is recommended.
Interested individuals may pre-register at the center, weekdays through Thursday, April 6, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The Miami Center is located one block off U.S. 50 at 8 North Miami Avenue in the same building as the Miami Township Public Library.
