Church raises $1M to build sports center

Built with $1 million raised by the congregation over three years, the Bright Christian Church will celebrate the grand opening of its Sports & Fitness Center on Sunday, July 8.

The church, 24457 State Line Road, will celebrate from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a brief dedication/ribbon cutting at 5 p.m., headed by the Bright Area Business Association, followed by an open house, said Sports Minister Gary Angel.

Free food, inflatables for the kids and many door prizes also will be part of the celebration.

“We are very excited about this new facility. The church’s external focus is what has motivated our members and attenders to do something most churches have not done: build a gym and fitness center offering many different sports and exercise classes to the community,” said Senior Minister Jeff Stone.

“It will allow us to expand our ministry in many new areas, with new programs and activities that will serve our community.”

The congregation’s new journey is three-fold said Angel.

“We want to show people genuine love through sports and fitness, we want to introduce them to Jesus and help them grow in their faith,” he said.

The church will launch Zumba, yoga, low-impact fitness classes, basketball and volleyball camps for youth this summer.

The fitness center includes a weight room with Matrix-elliptical, cycle and treadmills, along with strength training equipment.

Registration will take place during the open house for fitness classes and camps, or contact the church at 812-637-3388; or brightchristian.org.

Bright Christian Church also offers additional ministries to the Bright area, including men’s and women’s ministries, children’s and youth ministries, North Dearborn Food Pantry, and Community Impact days.
