Sunman man seriously injured in ATV crash
Friday, May 11, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the Indiana State Police responded to a serious personal injury crash on Spades Road after a vehicle collided with an ATV.
The initial investigation by Trp. Matt Holley, Indiana State Police-Versailles Crash Reconstruction Team, indicated that Harry O. Laker, age 84, Sunman, was traveling northbound on Spades Road near 1100 North in a Landmaster ATV. Laker’s ATV was then struck from behind by a northbound 2004 Ford Explorer being driven by Katlyn M. Buckhave, age 16, Batesville, Indiana. The force of the collision ejected Laker from the ATV.
As a result of the collision, Laker sustained serious injuries. He was flown to the University of Cincinnati Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Buckhave was not injured in the collision.
The investigation is ongoing. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash.
Holley was assisted by other troopers with the Indiana State Police, the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department, Ripley County EMS, and Suman Fire Department.
