Denise Freitag Burdette/The Register: Two teams represented the Ripley Ohio Dearborn delegation during the Special Olympics Indiana Summer Games this month at Indiana State University in Terre Haute. They were coached by Denise Freitag Burdette and Caz Burdette. Both teams won silver medals in their divisions. They were assisted by helper Evan Burdette, sitting in the very front with his legs crossed. Evan, and his brother Quinn, have grown up surrounded by their Special Olympics family. Pictured, from the left, in the front row, are: Josh Everroad, Emily Addison, Aaron Russell, Brian Torrance, Maria Moorman, Joey Hountz and Ian Alexander. Back row: Michael Stamper, Randy Schuman, Max Rinck, Benji Hyatt, Austin Riley, Kevin Beiersdorfer, Trey Bradshaw, Andrew Mitchell, Eric Moore, Alyssa Reindorf, Bobby Seevers and A.J. Williams. And a shoutout to all our players who have been a part of our teams for about 13 years! (OK team. I put you in the newspaper. Now stop plotting to shave my head when you win games. It is never going to happen!)
When I was in high school, I was taking my turn as a volleyball player to keep score during a grade school team tournament.
