Certified Athletic Trainers from Highpoint Health, directed by Beacon Orthopedics, from the four River Town Classic schools were honored with the National Athletic Trainers' Association Safe Sports School Awards during the basketball tournament at South Dearborn High School Friday, Jan. 4. They are, from left: Jennifer Bostic (Highpoint Health athletic training coordinator); athletic trainers Abby Walters (South Dearborn), Clif Willoughby (Switzerland County), Josh Uhlmansiek (Rising Sun), and Brandie Goad (Lawrenceburg); and Dr. David Argo, Beacon Orthopedics medical director. The award recognizes secondary schools that provide safe environments for student athletes. South Dearborn High School cheerleaders repeated as River Town Classic cheer competition champions during the boys basketball tournament finals Saturday night, Jan. 5, at SDHS. Lady Knights cheerleaders held onto first place despite injury setbacks in the days before the four-team event. They include (not in order): Danielle Chivelle, Mayce Lagaly, Faith Hensley, Cadence Denney, Kinley Sweeney, Cambrey Gilbert, Brenna VanGuelpen, Jozie Mason, Marrgo Arnsperger, Elissa Grehl, Amanda Welz, Emma Traue, Whitney Whitelock and Shanna Tschaenn. SD cheerleaders are coached by Lindsay Buerger, Lisa West, Lori Rinehart and Tara West. Not pictured, due to injury, is Britney Currie. SD WRESTLERS PIN SENIOR NIGHT VICTORY

AURORA - South Dearborn wrestling scored a 51-24 Senior Night victory over Franklin County Wednesday, Jan. 9.

Rising Sun's Shiners (4-6) captured their first-ever River Town Classic championship, 51-35 over Switzerland County Saturday night, Jan. 5, at South Dearborn. Senior guard Noah Pflum was named tourney MVP, with classmate Nick Koons also named to the all-tournament squad.

SILVER LINING IN 3RD PLACE WIN FOR KNIGHTS

AURORA - Prior to Saturday night’s 57-47 River Town Classic consolation final, South Dearborn boys basketball marked its last win over arch-rival Lawrenceburg on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013.
